We've been getting requests for the Heart in Hand cookie
cutter we used in the Spatulatta
Cookbook. Now you can make these lovely cookies just
like Liv and Belle. They're great to make for church
bake sales or other fundraisers. A cookie and a little
note about the meaning of the symbol might be a great
get-well gift or a simple way to say "I love you."
Each cutter comes with a recipe, baking tips
and a packet of spices - all tucked into in a clear plastic
mailing case.
We're starting the Cookie Cutter of the Month Club.
But the cutters aren't just for sweets. The larger cutters
are good for cutting sandwiches and the smaller ones
are great for shaping vegetables.
We will be mailing a different cutter at the beginning
of each month. It's a great way to let grandchildren,
nieces and nephews in distance cities know that you think
of them all the time.
Each cutter comes with a recipe, baking tips
and a packet of spices - all tucked into in a clear plastic
mailing case.
We're going to start small with three months of cutters.
If we get enough takers we'll expand our program. Right
now we're offering:

While volunteering in Santa Ana, Costa Rica, 15-year
old Sara Shaban began taking photos of families, each
led by a strong woman. These women, once members of a
squatters' community have worked together to obtain land
grants and build permanent housing. Their community is
called La Promesa - "the promise."
The women have made miraculous changes in their lives.
They have come out of dire poverty and abusive relationships
to forge a positive life for their children. The journey
has been a true metamorphosis. That's why they identify
with the butterfly or mariposa.
These women are all the sole support of their families.
They work very hard and live on an average of $30 per
month.
Sara and her friend Rigel Cable conceived of "The Promise
of Mariposas" calendar as a way to support these families
in their efforts. Together they collected the women's
stories, photographed them in their homes and worked
with the designer to produce this marvelous calendar.
Calendars are $15 each. All of the money goes to provide
seed money for 40 women as they start small business
enterprises. If you buy two, you help support a family
for a whole month.
For 1 calendar: Price $15 US - plus $5 shipping and handling
Sorry no rush shipping.
For 2 calendars:
Price $30 US - plus $8 shipping and handling

The duo features 5 ounces of Black Lava Hawaiian Sea Salt and 5 ounces of Red Alaea Hawaiian Sea Salt crystals sparkling in glass jars. This premium Hawaiian natural sea salt has a unique combination of taste, mineral content, and intriguing varietals. The Black Lava Salt and the Red Alaea Clay Salt each have a delicious and unique flavor. Both salts are coarse in grain size. We used the Black Lave on our Tri-tip Roast Beef and it was a totally amazing taste sensation. Swirl a little of each on a small white plate for a dramatic presentation. A fabulous gift for the cook in your life.

Anthea Paul hasn't written a cook book. She's written a philosophy for girls or "girlosophy" as she calls it. It's a way of looking at not just how food nourishes us physically but also how it nourishes us spiritually. But it's not fluffy at all. It's totally in your face and down to earth. "This is no diet book because, let's face it, diets suck."
Winner of the Victoria Australian Food Media Award, the book draws wisdom and recipes from girls all over the world. The design and art direction of this book are brilliant and well worth the price even if you never cook a thing. Recipes are in metric but you can use our conversion
tables to figure out cups and teaspoons.
Cricket Azima, the food editor for Kiwi Magazine, has put together the cutest book about lunching around the world. The book "grows" with kids. Part puzzle, part cookbook, Everybody Eats Lunch lets 3-8 year-olds taste the lunches served to 5 different kids in 5 very different locales: Mexico, Japan, Brazil, South Africa and Jamaica.
My favorite recipe is for a sort of Xhosa sandwich called Bunny Chow. I would love to know where the name comes from!
It's Easy Being Green: A Handbook for Earth-Friendly
Living
Sometimes the problem of saving the Earth seems overwhelming.
But Crissy Trask's book breaks it down into a lot of
little changes that we can make in our lives. No one
can make all of the changes at once but Trask suggests
we target the ones we can and work from there. It's
Easy Being Green presents a strategy for living
a healthier, eco-friendly life without the fuss.
Tassajara Cookbook: Lunches, Picnics and Appetizers
I don't even want to tell you how long ago I bought
the first Tassajara Cookbook. Just let's say
people were wearing bellbottoms - the first time around.
Tassajara is a Zen retreat in the wilds of California.
It's famous for its vegetarian cuisine. The design of
this book: the layout, the typeface and beautiful landscapes
pictured, has a marvelous calming effect. The food photography
so lush you can almost taste the fare.
The subtitle of this book is: The Ultimate Resource
for Creating a Beautiful, Healthy, Eco-Friendly Kitchen.
Jennifer Roberts takes us step by step through the
process of designing or rehabbing your kitchen with
green living in mind. She takes you through choices
in flooring, energy-efficient appliances, paints, windows
and doors - everything you need to make your new kitchen
eco-friendly.

The bright colors of the icing really make the photography
pop. Never be at a loss for the perfect cake for a party.
